Telling us your macOS version and which video app you were using (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, OBS…) helps us sort things out faster.
Requirements
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later
- Apple silicon Mac
Getting started
- Open CameraPal and allow its camera extension when macOS asks.
- In your video app, choose CameraPal as the camera.
- Tap a reaction in CameraPal — it lands on your live video.
Common questions
CameraPal doesn't show up as a camera
The camera extension has to be approved before it appears. Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions, find Camera Extensions, and make sure CameraPal is switched on. Then quit and reopen your video app — most apps only look for cameras when they launch.
The preview in CameraPal is black
CameraPal needs camera access to show you a preview of your own video. Turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Camera, then reopen CameraPal.
My reactions aren't appearing on the call
Reactions are composited onto the CameraPal camera, so the video app has to be pointed at CameraPal rather than your built-in or USB camera. Check the camera selection in that app's video settings.
Can I fire a reaction from the keyboard?
Yes. Each reaction is available to the Shortcuts app, so you can build a shortcut that fires it and assign it a keyboard shortcut or trigger it with Siri — handy when you don't want to reach for the mouse mid-sentence.
Does CameraPal record or upload my video?
No. Everything runs on your Mac and CameraPal has no network connection. See the privacy policy for the details.
Still stuck?
Write to camerapal@raquo.net and describe what you were doing when it went wrong. Bug reports and feature requests are equally welcome.
